Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack named rookie goaltender Scott Stajcer the Becker Shoes Attacker of the Week for the second straight week ending February 9th, 2009.

This was billed as a very tough weekend for a young Attack team. They found themselves playing against the OHL's top two teams in Windsor and London as well as a very tough Plymouth team they are trying to catch in the standings.

Thursday night saw the Attack head to Windsor to take on the OHL's number one team. Stajcer and the Attack found themselves down 3-1 at the midway point of the game but the rookie netminder was able to shut the door the rest of the way and the Attack were able to claw back to earn a well deserved point in a

4-3 Shootout loss. Stajcer stopped 50 of 53 shots from the high powered Windsor offence.

After sitting out Friday's 5-3 loss to the Plymouth Whalers, Stajcer was back in goal to take on the OHL's 2nd ranked team, the London Knights in front of a sold out crowd. London managed to score the first goal of the game and carried that lead into the second period, but after that, it was all the Attack. Stajcer held the fort for the remainder of the game, making 35 saves en route to a 5-2 victory and being named the games 2nd star.

Stajcer, one of the top ranked goalies in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft finished the week with 2 wins, a 2.40 GAA and a .940 save percentage. During the last two weeks, Scott has 4 wins and 1 shootout loss with a 2.20 GAA and a .951 save percentage.

Honorable mention goes to Josh Moes (2g,3a), Marcus Carroll (3g,1a), Mike Lomas (5a) and David Kolomatis (2g,3a).

The Attack is back in action this Saturday and Sunday when they play host to the Niagara Ice Dogs and the Ottawa 67's.
