January 19, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND â The Cleveland Barons today announced plans to host the annual St. Edward/St. Ignatius high school hockey game. Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.
On Saturday, January 29th on the National City Rink in Gund Arena, the St. Edward Eagles will play host to the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 3:45pm. Following this game, the Cleveland Barons will battle the St. John's Maple Leafs at 7:00pm. By purchasing a ticket to the Barons game, fans gain admittance to both games. Gates will open at 3:00pm as the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Cleveland Barons T-Shirt. For ticket information, call the Barons front office at 216-420-0000.
Following the Barons game, fans are welcomed and encouraged to take part in the second Marc's Post-Game Skate of the season on the National City Rink. The entire team will participate in the skate while signing autographs and posing for pictures. Fans must bring their skates to the game as they are not provided at Gund Arena.
This marks the second consecutive season that St. Edward and St. Ignatius have played before a Barons game. Last season, St. Edward defeated St. Ignatius 3-2 on January 3rd, 2004. The Barons defeated the St. John's Maple Leafs 5-1 in front of 7,876 fans, the Barons second largest crowd last season. Over 3,000 of those fans were in attendance for the high school game.
The Eagles of St. Edward are the defending state champions and have won eight state championships in their history. St. Edward has appeared in the state championship game in each of the past three seasons, winning two of them. The Wildcats of St. Ignatius own one state championship of their own as they were victorious in the 1999-2000 season.
"This is a great event in which we give student-athletes a taste of what it is like to play in a professional venue and atmosphere," stated Lehr. "The momentum we built from last season has created an even more-special environment for these teams - and their friends and families - to enjoy."
Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone by calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
