Tomas Surovy scored with 38.7 seconds to play in regulation time to set the table for a 5-4 shootout victory by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the Manitoba Moose Tuesday night.

The Penguins got the first few scoring opportunities early in the game. Michel Oullet had the puck at the side of the net and tried to stuff it in past Auld, but the Moose netminder was able to get his pads down to stop it.

Wilkes-Barre came close again when Auld went behind the net to play a puck that was dumped in, but it ricocheted off the boards and straight across the crease.

The Moose did not register a shot over the game's first ten minutes with their best chance coming on a shorthanded two-on-one with Kevin Bieksa and Jason King. Bieksa missed the net on the play as he elected to shoot.

Shane Endicott broke into the Moose zone and attempted to backhand a shot by Auld but was stopped.

Marc-Andre Fleury made a stellar stop at the 11:30 mark off Josh Green to keep the game scoreless.

The Moose scored the game's first goal while on a powerplay. Jeff Heerema picked up the rebound on a Nolan Baumgartner point shot and tapped the puck over to Josh Green, who rifled it past Fleury.

The Baby Pens came back with a powerplay goal of their own. Ryan Whitney blasted a point shot past a screened Alex Auld to tie the game at 1-1.

After one period, shots were 9-5 for the Penguins though the game was tied 1-1.

Early in the second, Wilkes-Barre scored a wild shorthanded goal to take a 2-1 lead. Shane Endicott from the corner of his own zone iced the puck. Auld misplayed it, redirecting it into his own goal.

The Moose tied it up midway through the period on a powerplay goal by Peter Sarno. Sarno ripped it by Fleury from the right faceoff circle to make it 2-2.

Kesler and King had two great two-on-one shorthanded chances while killing a Lee Goren penalty. The first chance, Fleury slid across to save a Jason King one-timer and on the second Kesler redirected a King shot but was stopped.

When Goren came out of the penalty box, he took advantage of the Moose momentum and rifled a shot past Fleury. The goal was Manitoba's third of the night, on 12 shots prompting coach Michel Therrien to pull Fleury and replace him with Andy Chiodo.

Wilkes-Barre netted their second shorthanded goal of the game at 14:32. Matt Murley intercepted a puck and broke in on a two-on-one. Kevin Bieksa played the pass, and Murley scored on the rebound to tie the game up.

A couple of minutes later, the Moose regained their lead. Justin Morrison fed Wade Brookbank at the point, who one-timed a shot that was redirected in front by Nathan Smith past Chiodo.

After a high-scoring second period that saw both teams combine for five goals, the Moose held a 4-3 advantage but Wilkes-Barre had a 17-16 lead on the shot clock.

Wilkes-Barre took the play to the Moose in the third while pressing for the equalizer. Auld had to be sharp as the Pens had the Moose pinned in their zone for several minutes at a time, cycling the puck.

Auld made a great stop on Tomas Surovy with eight minutes to go in the third. Surovy took a pass in the slot and one-timed it but the Moose netminder came across in time for the pad save.

With 38.7 seconds to go in the third period, the Penguins scored to even the game at 4-4. Surovy picked up a rebound after Auld stopped the initial shot by Michel Ouellet. Surovy had a wide-open opportunity and he buried it to tie the game up.

After regulation, shots were 25-20 for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Neither team had a strong scoring chance in overtime, with the best chance coming when Josh Green, Jeff Heerema and Kent Huskins had a three-on-one for the Moose but the play was broken up before it could get dangerous.

Michel Oullet scored the first goal for Wilkes-Barre, firing low glove side. Josh Green tried a deke around Chiodo but was stopped.

Kenny Corupe also scored for the Penguins, firing five-hole on Auld. Jason King was stopped.

Erik Christensen's deke attempt was poke-checked by Auld. Jesse Schultz was turned away by Chiodo.

Kris Beech was stopped by Auld, while Justin Morrison scored on a deke to keep the Moose alive.

Colby Armstrong scored on a wrister from in-close to clinch the Penguins victory.
