Pirates Announce Date For "Evening with the Pirates"

PORTLAND, ME – The Portland Pirates Foundation announced today that the 8th Annual Evening with the Pirates, presented by Key Bank, will take place on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from 5:30 p.m. -10:00 p.m. at The Stadium Restaurant and Sports Bar to support the Pirates new exhibit at the Children's Museum of Maine opening next spring.

The evening will include silent and live auctions, entertainment with comedian Christine O'Leary, WGME's Kiley Bennett and WBLM's Herb Ivy, a special fashion show presented by Betsy's and Joseph's and dancing and delicious food and refreshments from downtown restaurants. This night provides a chance for fans to mingle with the Portland Pirates players and other Portland celebrities. Tickets for the event are $25 per person – and your ticket purchase will give you a $10 discount off of your total auction purchases.

In addition, the silent auction will include artwork from local artist Greg Sturniolo who has created five original works of art, with a limited poster series, that associate with the sport of hockey and the Portland Pirates, details of which will be announced at a later date.

This annual event, introduced in 1997, has raised over $175,000 for local charities over the past seven years. The United Way of Greater Portland, the Federated Boys and Girls Club of Maine, STRIVE and Portland's Downtown District's Alive at Five Outdoor Concert Series are among the organizations that have all benefited from the event.

The Portland Pirates Foundation was formed in July, 2003 as a Maine public charitable corporation and represents the philanthropic arm of Portland Pirates, LLC. Its mission is to enrich and impact the region, and specifically the greater Portland area, through educational, sports-based, community-building and fundraising activities and programs. The Foundation leverages the unique talents of Portland Pirates players and staff and collaborates with local corporate and community partners to make a difference in our local communities.

The Children's Museum of Maine was ranked 14th in the country by Child Magazine in 2002. The museum offers exhibits and programming for children of all ages. In the new L.L. Bear Discovery Woods exhibit, you can climb Mt. Kid-ta-din, pack-a-backpack, build your own shelter, make a splash in Cascade Stream, visit the Ranger Station, and identify leaves and animals you would find in the Maine woods. Other exhibits include a fire truck, toddler park, star lab, space shuttle, tv weather studio, dress-up theatre, grocery store, car repair shop, sail boat, animal hospital, diner, farm and a camera obscura that offers a panoramic of the city. This spring the Museum and the Pirates will be unveiling a new outdoor ship exhibit which this years Evening with the Pirates is helping to fund.
