Birmingham Squadron News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, notched their fifth-straight win, defeating the Memphis Hustle, NBA G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies, 113-109.

The matchup proved to be a heated one that included six total technical fouls (Memphis: 4, Birmingham: 2) and two ejections (Memphis: Hearn, March), before coming down to a last-second defensive stop by the Squadron in the form of a block by center James Banks III.

Birmingham had two players post double-doubles, including two-way guard Jose Alvarado who recorded 17 points and 12 assists, the most assists in a single game by a Squadron player this season and forward Malcolm Hill who tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds in the contest.

The Squadron's talented backcourt of guard Jared Harper and guard Joe Young lifted the team to victory as the two players accounted for 58 points as a pair, over half of the team's total. The pair also accounted for 12 total threes, leading to 18 total made threes by the Squadron, the most by the team in a game this season.

Young finished with a team-high 30 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steals, while Harper recorded 28 points, four steals, two assists and one rebound.

The Hustle were led by forward Cameron Young, who posted 24 points on 11-of-22 attempts (.500), along with four assists, four rebounds, three steals and one block.

The Squadron finished their six-game home stand 5-1, including five straight wins to finish the series of games. The team now heads to Las Vegas, where they will play two games in the NBA G League Showcase between December 19 and 22.
