Goodwin's 33 Points Not Enough; Westchester Falls Short to Delaware
December 15, 2021 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WILMINGTON, DE - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, were defeated by the Delaware Blue Coats, 120-109, Sunday afternoon at Chase Fieldhouse, halting their two-game win streak.
Brandon Goodwin (affiliate) led all scorers with a season-high 33 points on 52.4-percent shooting, to go along with a team-high six assists and seven rebounds. Goodwin is now averaging 23.6 points and 5.7 assists in his last three. Goodwin missed the season's first five contests and averaged 11.3 points in his first three games back.
Tyler Hall (returning rights) chipped in with 19 points, hitting five of nine three-point attempts. VJ King (returning rights) dropped the first double-double of his career, registering 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Brandon Williams (tryout) contributed 12 points off the bench.
Delaware (10-1) was led by Paul Reed's double-double with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Charlie Brown Jr. ended with 20 points, and Shamorie Ponds put up 19. Coming off the bench, Haywood Highsmith and Aaron Henry scored 14 and 13 points respectively, for the Blue Coats.
The Knicks (4-7) scored the game's opening basket in a tightly contested opening quarter and trailed just four by the start of the second quarter, 26-22. In the second quarter, Delaware erupted for a 15-point lead. The lead was cut to 12 at the half, 59-47.
In the third, Westchester filled in all but four points of its hole on a Goodwin free throw valued at two points with 4:40 left in the quarter. That would be the closest the visitors would come within Delaware with the Blue Coats charging double-digit deficits to the Knicks for most of the fourth quarter.
Each team will get a few days before doing it again in Delaware on Friday, December 17 at 7:00 PM ET.
