BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, dropped Sunday afternoon's matchup to the defending champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 134-124, at Legacy Arena at the BJCC.
With the score knotted at 25 after one, the Vipers outscored Birmingham by 16 in the second and never looked back, leading by as many as 29 in the contest.
Birmingham was led in scoring by forward James Kelly, Sr's 20 points. The Marshall product registered his second-consecutive double-double with 13 boards as well. In his first home game since returning to the Squadron roster, Malcolm Hill scored 19 and shot 50% (4-of-8) from behind the arc.
Darius Days led the Vipers in the scoring column with 31 points, while Trevor Hudgins pitched in 20.
Birmingham returns to Legacy Arena on Tuesday for the Squadron's annual Literacy Day game, when the team will host students from up to two hours away for an 11 a.m. tip-off. The game can be seen locally on My68 WABM or nationally on ESPN+.
