Springfield Falcons Loan Defenseman Brett Ponich to Kalamazoo Wings

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons have loaned defenseman Brett Ponich to the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Landon announced today.

Ponich, 24, has skated in 33 contests with the Falcons this season, posting four assists to along with a team-high 105 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound defenseman split the 2013-14 season between the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and Kalamazoo. He appeared in 14 games with the Wolves, earning three assists and 26 PIM, and 51 games with the Wings, accumulating 3-5-8 with 65 PIM. Over his career, Ponich has skated in a total of 134 AHL and 69 ECHL games, racking up 216 PIM and 102 PIM, respectively. The Beaumont, Alberta native also spent five seasons with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, collecting 47 points (2g, 45a) and 327 PIM in 249 appearances.

Ponich was selected in the second round, 48th overall, by the St. Louis Blues in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
