Springfield Acquires Edwin Ubiles

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, announced today that they have acquired guard/forward Edwin Ubiles from the Santa Cruz Warriors in exchange for the Armor's second round selection in the 2013 NBA D-League Draft and a fifth round draft pick that was originally acquired by the Armor from the Warriors on Jan. 7 in a trade that sent Shawn Taggart to Santa Cruz and Paul Carter to Springfield . To make room on the roster, the Armor waived guard Christian Polk. The active roster now stands at 10.

Ubiles (6-6, 204, Siena) captured NBA D-League Rookie of the Year honors following the 2011-12 season after averaging 19.6 points on 50.3% shooting, 5.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 34.3 minutes in 41 games (all starts) with the Dakota Wizards. Ubiles also earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Washington Wizards, averaging 3.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in four games. This past summer, Ubiles was a member of the Brooklyn Nets Orlando Summer League team.

During the 2012-13 season, Ubiles appeared in 14 games off the bench with the Santa Cruz Warriors, averaging 7.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.5 minutes per game. Ubiles joined the Warriors after appearing in one game with Cholet Basket of the France-ProA League.

A native of Poughkeepsie, NY, Ubiles was a standout four-year performer at Siena College, earning All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) First Team honors twice (2007-08 and 2008-09), Second Team honors once (2009-10) and MAAC co-Rookie of the Year honors (2006-07).

Ubiles, 26, will join the Armor for practice tomorrow and will be available when the team travels to Erie to take on the BayHawks on Friday at 7:00 pm at Erie Insurance Arena.
