Fort Worth Cats News Release

Trailing by six runs going into the eighth inning, Shreveport scored nine unanswered runs as they came back to defeat Fort Worth 10-7 in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at LaGrave Field.

With the loss, the Cats record falls to 22-19 on the season as their four-game winning streak came to a halt.

With the game tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Cats scored six runs, highlighted by an Eli Albertson grand slam to left. When the dust settled in the sixth, the Cats held a 7-1 lead.

Shreveport battled back as they scored five times in the eighth inning. After two runs were home in the frame, the Sports added runs on a sacrifice fly by Derek Henderson, an RBI double by Jorge Alvarez, a passed ball to cut the Fort Worth lead to 7-6.

Down to their last strike in the ninth, Derek Patterson singled home Vernon Spearman from second base to tie the game at seven and send the contest into extra innings.

The Cats offense, meanwhile fell dormant after the big sixth inning as they managed just two hits over the last four innings of the ballgame.

In Shreveport's half of the 11th, the Sports took an 8-7 lead on a sacrifice fly by Joe Dusan. They would later add two more runs in that inning on a two-run double by Michael Hicks to put the game away.

Carl Makowsky (3-1) earned the victory for Shreveport as he threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and finished off the Cats in the 11th.

Fort Worth reliever John Whalen (1-1), who started the 11th inning, was tagged with the loss as he permitted two runs in that frame.

Cats' starter Brandon Wood, who went seven innings and allowed a run on five hits, received no decision in the game.

Game four of the five-game series is Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Shad Williams will pitch for the Cats and six-game winner Thad Markray will work for the Sports.
