
Sports' big inning dooms Cats 8-3

The loss snaps the Cats' three-game winning streak and, combined with Coastal Bend's win Monday, drops the Cats lead to three games in the South.
Leading 3-2 going to the seventh, Shreveport scored five times on only three hits to break the game open. There were four walks and a hit batter in the inning. Tommy Bryant delivered a two-run single and Melvin Falu contributed an RBI single in the inning.
Enohel Polanco's run-scoring hit in the sixth inning had made it 3-2 Shreveport. Polanco had four hits in the game and an RBI. Bryant was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.
The Cats had scored runs in the second and fifth innings, each time to tie the game. Cats' second baseman Kip Harkrider was 3-for-4 in the game with two runs scored. Ken Lup had two hits and Shawn Williams had a single to extend his hit streak to 18 games.
Former Cat TJ Hendricks (6-3) earned the win after allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. Danny Valentin (3-1) suffered the loss allowing two earned runs in 5 1/3 innigns.
Game 3 of the series is Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Ryan Weems pitches for the Cats and Bert Snow will pitch for Shreveport.
