St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
ST. PAUL, MN-St. Paul (14-16, 43-35) held off the Blacksnakes (14-16, 40-38), 10-7, at Midway Stadium. The Blacksnakes were down 10-0 before scoring seven times in the eighth and ninth to make things interesting before falling.
St. Paul jumped on St. Joe right away. They scored a two-out run in the first and added three more in the second. Chaz Lytle's two-run single helped make it 4-0.
St. Paul starter Justin Lord limited the 'Snakes to just two hits through the first seven innings while the Saints offense built a large lead with the long ball. Pat Scalabrini hit a two-run home run in the sixth and Brian Buchanan launched a grand slam in the seventh for a 10-0 lead.
The Blacksnakes scored four times in the eighth when Scooter Jordan and Ben Thomas had run scoring hits before Cody Nowlin's two-run single got St. Joe within 10-4. They added three more unearned runs in the ninth with a pair of hits and three Saints errors to make it a game at 10-7, and force St. Paul to use closer Matt Hammons to close out the win.
St. Paul adds another game to St. Joe's deficit in the wild card chase and the 'Snakes now have a three-game hole with 18 games to play with eight more games against St. Paul. Andrew Edwards (1-3) will look to win St. Joe's first in St. Paul Tuesday night against Anthony Boughner (6-6). Game time is 7:05pm and the webcast starts with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show at 6:45pm on www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
