Saltdogs sweep hardware for second straight week

DURHAM, NC-Sportsticker, the American Association's official statistician, has selected Lincoln C Kevin Sullivan and LHP Lindsay Gulin as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 31-August 6.

Sullivan, in seven games this week, had a batting average of .500 (11-for-22) with four home runs, 12 RBI, three doubles, and 10 runs scored. Saturday, in a 14-3 rout of the St. Paul Saints, Sullivan had a 3-for-4 outing with four runs scored, three RBI, and two home runs. The Stevens Point, WI resident is currently hitting .304 with five home runs, 46 RBI, and 46 runs scored.

The 28-year-old was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 32nd round of the 2000 draft. Sullivan, in his seven-year professional career, has played in the Phillies and Colorado Rockies organizations along with the independent Lincoln Saltdogs. In 2005 with the Saltdogs, Sullivan batted .313 with 10 HR, 45 RBI, and 51 runs scored.

Gulin has arguably been the best pitcher in the American Association this season. This past week in two starts, Gulin went 2-0 with an earned run average of 1.13 with 15 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. The Issaquah, WA resident is first in the Association with 11 wins and a 1.60 ERA and second in strikeouts with 93. Hitters in the league are only batting .198 against him.

The 29-year-old was a 16th round selection of the New York Mets in the 1995 draft. He spent three seasons in the Mets organization before being traded to the Seattle Mariners in 1998. Gulin has also spent time pitching in the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers farm system as well as with the St. Paul Saints. Gulin has a career record of 71-40 with an earned run average of 3.52.
