Spokane Shock News Release
SPOKANE, WA (May 15th, 2012) - The Spokane Shock (4-4) host the Philadelphia Soul (7-2) in their Week 11 Arena Football League match-up on Friday, May 18th with an 8pm PST kickoff at the Spokane Arena. This week is 'Navy Week' as the Shock will be recognizing our Military Service members with special in-game ceremonies, and the first 5,000 fans will receive 'Rolla Bannas' courtesy of Sterling Bank.
Coming off an exciting overtime victory last week against the New Orleans Voodoo (3-5), the Shock are settling into their new roster after making 15 transactions last week in a mid-season shuffle in order to fight off the injury bug and player departures to CFL mini-camps.
Through the first 10 weeks, as Spokane reaches their half-way point in the regular season schedule, they continue to make up ground in their non- conference schedule as the Western Division is currently home to three of the top five Power Ranked teams in the AFL. Philadelphia poses an opportunity to upset a non-conference foe with inner-division complications as San Jose having already been defeated by the Soul and Utah facing Philadelphia in the final week of the season.
The Shock will undoubtedly have their hands full with the Soul's league leading scoring offense led by QB Dan Raudabaugh, who has thrown 60 touchdown passes on the season to accompany his 2,527 yards in the air. Defensively, Philadelphia is led by Ken Richardson who has recorded 8 interceptions in their first 9 games this season.
Spokane's leading touchdown receiver, Brandon Thompkins, enters the week 10 match-up having brought in 22 touchdowns in 8 games and closely trails Philadelphia's Tiger Jones who in 9 games has scored 26 times this season.
Coming off a career-topping performance last week, the Shock will look for Terrance Sanders to make a key impact on the defensive and special team sides of the ball. Terrance took two kick returns back for touchdowns last week and added two interceptions, including the victory sealing pick in overtime which he returned to the one-yard line to set up a QB sneak for a touchdown.
Behind the progressing Shock offense led by Kyle Rowley, Spokane will rely heavily on their defense who through their first 8 games of the season leads the league in provoking opponent penalties, having forced 81 in total for an average of 61.5 yards per game.
Join the Shock this Friday, May 18th with an 8pm PST kickoff at the Spokane Arena for Navy Week as the Shock take on the Philadelphia Soul. Tickets are available by calling the Shock Ticket Office at 509-242-SHOCK (7462) ext 1.
