
Spokane Earns a Point in OT Loss

The Spokane Chiefs earned a point in the standings, falling to Portland Winterhawks 3-2 in overtime in front of 6,243 on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. Eric Williams led the way for the Chiefs making 29 saves in the effort. The Chiefs are now tied with the Vancouver Giants for fourth place in the WHL Western Conference.
The first period ended scoreless and was highlighted by clean play with neither team being called for a penalty. The Chiefs did outshoot the Winterhawks 13-9 in the first.
Dylan Walchuk scored his fifth of the year to get the scoring started at 2:13 of the second, being set up by Dominik Uher and Mitch Holmberg.
Portland scored the next two goals with Cam Reid and Brad Ross finding the back of the net at 4:29 and 12:53 of the second to give the Winterhawks a 2-1 advantage going into the intermission.
The third period was a defensive battle with both teams struggling to find the back of the net. Darren Kramer provided the lone goal of the period, playing a rebound off of the boards behind the net and slipped it past goaltender Mac Carruth. It eventually sent the game into overtime.
Ross scored the game winner for the Winterhawks at 3:38 of the overtime period.
Ross and Reid were the games first and third stars respectively, with Williams earning the games second star for the Chiefs. The Chiefs led in shots on goal 35-33.
