Portland Winterhawks News Release
Brad Ross scored the overtime winner Friday as the Portland Winterhawks (32-14-2-1) earned a 3-2 road win over the Spokane Chiefs (26-14-4-3).
With two goals and an assist, Ross figured into every goal Portland scored Friday, while Cam Reid had two points in the win.
After a scoreless first period, Spokane opened the scoring 2:13 into the second on a goal by Dylan Walchuk. Portland tied the game at 1-1 just over two minutes later when Reid scored his second goal since joining the team earlier this month. The Hawks then got a goal from Ross, his 30th of the season, at the 14:53 mark to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Portland maintained the 2-1 lead through much of the third until Spokane's Darren Kramer evened the game at 2-2 with a goal at the 15:57 mark. Neither team could score the winner in regulation, setting up overtime.
In the extra frame, Ross picked up the winner at the 3:38 mark to give Portland the two points.
With 31 goals on the season, Ross has tied the career-high he set last season, doing so in his 250th career game.
Mac Carruth earned the win in net for the Hawks with 29 saves on 31 shots. Spokane netminder Eric Williams had 33 saves on 36 Portland shots.
The Hawks are back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds.
