Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win game two of the series against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks, 8-2 in front of a crowd of 3,155 fans at Turtle Creek Stadium. The Pit Spitters record improves to 35-25, and 13-12 in the second half.
The Pit Spitters snap their losing streak and get the offense going early tonight with a Andrew Mannelly lead off walk in the bottom of the first inning. Glenn Miller followed up the walk with a double, scoring Mannelly to give the Pit Spitters a 1-0 lead. Cole Prout then singled, scoring Miller to extend the Pit Spitters lead to 2-0. Riley Silva started the Battle Jacks offense in the top of the third with a single to left field. Jt Sokolove continued to see the ball well against the Pit Spitters as he singled to right field, advancing Silva to third and put the Jacks in scoring position. Jake Allgeyer then hit into a fielder's choice, allowing Silva to come into score cutting into the Pit Spitters lead 2-1. Mannelly, Parker Brosius, and Miller all were hit by a pitch to load up the bases with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Mannelly came into score on a wild pitch thrown by Maccallan Conklin to extend the Pit Spitters lead to 3-1. Following Evan Orzech's walk to load up the bases, Brosius stole home to push the Pit Spitters lead to 4-1. Miller made it 5-1 when Conklin threw another wild pitch, allowing him to score from third. The small ball offense continued into the bottom of the sixth for the Pit Spitters. Ethan Hyme led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch, then Zach Johnson reached first after an error made by third baseman Jake Allgeyer. Atkinson dropped a bunt scoring Hyme to extend the Pit Spitters lead to 6-1. Mannelly reached base on another hit by pitch, setting up Brosius hit a sacrifice fly scoring Johnson to make it 7-1. Atkinson then stole home, making it a 8-1 ballgame. Allgeyer led off the top of the eighth inning with a walk, and Brock Daniels doubled to right field to put runners on second and third. Kyle Ratliff hit a sacrifice flyout, scoring Allgeyer to make it 8-2. The Pit Spitters held onto the 8-2 lead for a win to split the series with the Battle Jacks.
The Pit Spitters improve to 35-25 on the season and 13-12 in the second half, while the Battle Jacks drop to 23-37 overall and 13-13 in the second half. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Ethan Foley threw five innings, giving up four hits, five walks, and one run. Mitch Grannan threw two innings of scoreless relief, and he struck out four. Mason Hill made his Pit Spitters debut, where he threw an inning of relief, giving up one run on one hit. Noah Samol came in for the final inning of the game and struck out two.
The Pit Spitters will travel to Kokomo Municipal Stadium tomorrow for the start of a two-game series against the Kokomo Jackrabbits. First pitch will be 7:05PM.
