Spitters Take Game One of Doubleheader, Win Fifth Straight

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters stayed hot with their fifth consecutive victory, taking game one of the Thursday doubleheader 5-4 over the Kenosha Kingfish.

The Pit Spitters increased their overall lead in the Great Lakes East to 3.5 games and their second-half lead to 5.5 games. They hold the largest second-half lead of any division leader in the Northwoods League.

Traverse City got it going right away as Marshall Toole singled home the opening run. On a double steal, Toole took second while Colin Summerhill scored on the throw down to make it 2-0.

After Kenosha made it 2-1 in the third, TC struck for two more in the bottom half. Brennen Dorighi doubled home Camden Traficante to start the inning. Two natters later, Toole knocked in Dorighi with a perfect bunt for a hit.

Kenosha wouldn't score again until the ninth. Duncan Lutz (2-1, 2.38) had the best game of his season. Making his first start, the tall righty struck out a season-high seven batters, while only allowing one run on four hits.

A Camden Traficante sac fly in the fourth made it 5-1, a score that would last until the ninth. In the ninth, Kenosha scored a few runs and had the tying run on base with their best hitter at the plate. Drake Westcott enteted the at bat 4-7 with a home run and three RBIs in the series. But Mitch White got him to groundout on the first pitch to pick up his team-high fourth save and secure the game one win.
