La Crosse Loggers News Release

Willmar, MN - The La Crosse Loggers fell short in the second game of their doubleheader last night against the Willmar Stingers.

Mickey Thompson (San Jose State) got the nod for the Loggers, pitching well through 6.0 innings of work. He had his swing-and-miss stuff working, striking out a season-high 10 batters while allowing 3 earned runs.

The Stingers took advantage of Thompson's departure, scoring 2 go-ahead runs in the 7th frame. Following a flurry of walks, Zac Corbin (Kennesaw State) stayed hot by driving in Brett Bateman (Minnesota) on an RBI single. Scott Anderson (Point Loma Nazarene) then drew an RBI walk for another insurance run.

John Klein (Minnesota State-Mankato) was dominant out of the bullpen, pitching in relief for Stingers' starter, Dylan Matela (Georgia State). He tallied 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 8.

Offensively for the Loggers, they produced a pair of runs in the 1st and 2nd innings, but none for the remainder of the contest. In the 1st, Xavier Casserilla (Wichita State) hit a 2-run homer; his fourth of the season. In the 2nd, Jack Haley (Cal State-Fullerton) and Josh Stevenson (LSU) each drove in runs on RBI singles.

The Lumberman now have two off days before returning home Saturday to take on the St. Cloud Rox. There will be a "Fire Works Extravaganza" after the game presented by Great Lakes Cheese. The first pitch is at 6:35pm CT at Copeland Park. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/.
