Traverse City, MI- The Traverse City Pit Spitters lose the final game of the regular season against the Rockford Rivets, 9-1 in front of 3,110 fans at Turtle Creek Stadium. The Pit Spitters fall to 42-30 on the season and 20-17 in the second half. Game one of the Great Lakes East Division Playoffs is tomorrow night at Turtle Creek Stadium. First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
The action started tonight for the Rivets in the second inning, with a run scored by Connor Allen on a sac bunt from Joel Connors, making it 1-0 Rivets. The Rivets added a run in the top of the third when Wyatt Morgan scored after a single from Rj Carver, to give the Rivets a 2-0 lead.
The Pit Spitters got some momentum going in the bottom of the third when Andrew Mannelly doubled followed by a double from Colin Summerhill. Mannelly then scored on an error by the left fielder, to cut into the Rivets lead 2-1. The Rivets went up 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, when Charlie Jones scored after a fielder's choice for Bradley White. The following run came when Tj Williams scored from third on a single to the center fielder from Bennett Eltoft, making it 4-1, Rivets.
The offense stayed quiet for both teams until the Rivets struck again in the top of the eighth inning. Bradley White hit a triple scoring Tj Williams, making it 5-1 Rivets. The Rivets added another following a fielder's choice by Eltoft, scoring White making it 6-1, Rivets. The Rivets piled on in the top of the ninth with three more runs, making it 9-1 Rivets with no reply from the Pit Spitters. Final score, 9-1 Rivets.
The Pit Spitters fall to 42-29 on the season and 20-16 in the second half, while the Rivets improve to 13-24 in the second half. The Pit Spitters starting pitcher Easton Johnson threw four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out one and accruing the loss. Mason Hill pitched three innings giving up two runs on four hits and striking out two. Sawyer Meeuwes pitched one full inning and retired two in the next, giving up three runs on three hits, striking out three.
