Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Kalamazoo, MI - The Kenosha Kingfish prevailed 9-6 over the Kalamazoo Growlers in the second to last game of the 2023 Northwoods League regular season.

After being held to just seven runs total in the prior series against the Traverse City Pit Spitters, Kenosha put up that same run total in the third inning to break the game wide open. Everyone in the batting order registered a hit for the boys in baby blue.

By the middle of the sixth frame, Kalamazoo faced a 9-0 deficit before running out of time to pull off a come-from-behind victory.

Giovany Lorenzo (Palm Beach Atlantic University) pulled through with his eighth multi-hit game in 27 contests with the Kingfish. He went 2-for-4 with a home run (his first of the season) and a team-best three RBI on the day.

Oakland University commit Brody Krzysiak (2-2) got the victory with his most impressive start of the season. The 18-year-old tossed six innings of two-run ball on four hits with a season-best seven strikeouts.

Kryzsiak is the youngest player to suit up for Kenosha this season and has been a model of consistency out of the bullpen and rotation.

His soon-to-be college teammate, Tanner Ware (2-4), took the loss after allowing a season-high eight earned runs on nine hits over just three innings pitched.

Kenosha (30-41, 13-25) snapped a six-game losing streak against the defending Northwoods League champions. They remain in last place in the Great Lakes East.

Kalamazoo (46-23, 25-10) still leads the series 8-3 and is set to face off against Traverse City in a first round playoff matchup.

The Kingfish and Growlers will finish out the regular season with one last face off on Aug. 12. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PM CST.
