
Spitters Clinch Playoffs for Fifth Year in a Row

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters clinch the Great Lakes East Division first half, winning 8-1 against the Kokomo Jackrabbits, and improving to a 22-13, in front of 3,351 fans at Turtle Creek Stadium. The Jackrabbits finish the first half with a 13-21 record.
Kokomo came out in the top of the first inning wanting to play spoiler for the second night in the row as Tyler Ganus started the offense by getting hit by a pitch. Following a Karson Hesser's single to right field, Roman Kuntz singled up the middle bringing around Ganus to take an early 1-0 lead. Jack Crighton and Parker Brosius led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back singles, followed by a Glenn Miller single to right field bringing around Crighton to make it 1-1. Colin Summerhill helped tack on a run, scoring Brosius to make it 2-1. with a sacrifice flyout to take the lead 2-1. The hits kept coming when Evan Orzech doubled down the left field line, scoring Miller to make it 3-1. The Pit Spitters drew three straight walks to kick off the bottom of the fifth inning, queuing up future RBI's and extending the Pit Spitters lead. Colin Summerhill singled to right center field bringing around Crighton and Brosius to extend their lead to 5-1. Brendan Summerhill then doubled to center field scoring Glenn Miller and Colin Summerhill to give the Pit Spitters a commanding 7-1 lead. Tyler Minnick polished it off with a single up the middle bringing around Brendan Summerhill to make it 8-1.
The Pit Spitters improve to 21-12 on the season and has officially clinched the 2023 Great Lakes East first half, as for the Jackrabbits they finish the first half with a 13-21 record. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Ethan Foley threw six innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out three. Hayden Jactzak came in for relief and threw two innings of scoreless ball striking out one. Aaron Forrest came in for the top of the ninth, throwing a scoreless inning striking out one.

The Pit Spitters go on the road for six days starting tomorrow, as they travel to Battle Creek to take on the Battle Jacks with first pitch at 1:05 PM.
