Windsor Spitfires News Release
Jake Paterson made 39 saves and the visitors got two goals from Dylan Sadowy, as the Saginaw Spirit topped the Spitfires 4-1 on Saturday night at the WFCU Centre.
Artem Aretmov and Mitchell Webb also scored for Saginaw (2-2-0-0).
Sam Povorozniouk had the only goal for Windsor (1-3-0-0) which went 0-for-6 on the power play.
Sadowy opened the scoring at 17:50 of the first period, staking the Spirit to a 1-0 lead. His second of the game followed on a power play at 13:35 of the second.
Povorozniouk's first of the season came off a pretty backhand feed from the corner, off the stick of Cristiano DiGiacinto, who was playing in his first game of the season after sitting out the remaining three of a five-game suspension.
But the Spirit recaptured their two-goal lead in the final minute of the frame on Artemov's first of the season.
Webb's first of the season put the game out of reach, an unassisted marker that came at 3:28.
The Spits will wrap their season-opening five-game homestand as they host the Peterborough Petes Thursday night. Gametime is 7:05.
