
Spitfires Fall in a Shootout to the Knights, 4-3

The Spitfires were on the wrong side of a shootout decision to the Knights. It was just the 2nd shootout of the season for the Spitfires, and they fell to 0-2.
In the first period, it took a while for the games opening goal. Almost 16 minutes to be exact, the Knights took the lead off a turnover in the neutral zone. That would be the lone goal of the period. The Knights led 12-10.
In the second period, the Spitfires were able to battle back. Just under 9 minutes into the period, Wright had a great solo effort towards the goal and his shot would hit a few bodies in front before he got the puck again and put it in the net for his 8th goal of the season. Ten minutes later and with just a minute remaining in the period, the former Knight, Colton Smith would chip a shot over Brochu and into the net for his 22nd of the year to give the Spitfires a 2-1 lead. The Spitfires trailed in shots 21-15.
In the third period, the Knights would tie the game at 2 just 50 seconds in. Just two minutes later the Spitfires would respond on the powerplay. Cristoforo kept the puck in a brought it down the boards, he a Greentree played pitch and catch before Cristoforo found Christopoulos in front of the net and he buried his 40th of the season. Just two minutes later the Knights would respond and tie the game at 3. This game needed some extra time.
In the overtime frame, the Spitfires would fire off 4 shots and they were all stopped by Brochu. The Knights would fail to register a shot in OT. The Spitfires had quality chances with their 4 shots but couldn't break the deadlock. We were headed to a shootout.
In the shootout, the Spitfires shot first but Smith was denied. London's Diaco would score. Maggio would score for the Spitfires to even the shootout at 1. Mailloux, Wright, Winterton, Greentree and Gazizov would all miss on their chances. Christopoulos would score to put London on the brink but Barkey would score to keep them alive. Peer was up next, and he was stopped. Bonk would then win it for London.
The Spitfires are back in action on Friday March 3rd in Flint. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
