Waterloo Region - Since the implementation of the Canada-Wide Early Learning & Child Care (CWELCC) plan, there has been a significant increase in demand for licensed child care, and programs are facing workforce shortages.
Given the significant growth in licensed child care expected through CWELCC, these challenges will increase as even more RECEs are needed in Waterloo Region.
As part of the campaign, Children's Services has partnered with the Kitchener Rangers to host an event at the game on Friday, March 3. The focus is to promote the important work of RECEs in the community, acknowledge their dedication and commitment to providing high-quality child care, and invite interest in this growing profession.
Children's Services has collaborated with all 47 of Ontario's Early Years and Child Care Service System Managers to launch a province-wide marketing campaign, which is focused on increasing awareness and support for Ontario's licensed childcare sector and RECEs.
"We are proud to support this initiative and recognize the 1,936 RECEs and early years professionals providing high-quality early learning and care to Waterloo Region's youngest citizens," said Barb Cardow, Region of Waterloo Children's Services Director. "High-quality early years and child care programs support families to seek and maintain employment, pursue education or training opportunities. This contributes to the local economy and boosts our labour force, especially for women. With the current demand for licensed child care, this is a great time to join the profession."
"We are thrilled to host this event and support RECEs and early years professionals," commented Joe Birch, COO of the Kitchener Rangers. "It will be an exciting game with more than 1,400 RECEs and early years professionals and their guests in the Auditorium, which is our largest group event to date."
As part of the Region's Early Years and Child Care Service System Plan, Children's Services supports and promotes RECEs. For more information, visit regionofwaterloo.ca/early-years.
Limited tickets for the game are available and can be purchased.
