Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSONVILLE, FL - A spirited ninth inning rally fell short in a game the Biscuits (54-54) never led in, and the Jacksonville Suns held on to win the middle game 8-6 Tuesday at the Baseball Grounds.

Omar Poveda (7-5) mowed the Biscuits down through six, and took a 5-0 lead into the seventh. Matt Sweeney and Shawn O'Malley both had base hits to key a three run inning, cutting the Suns' lead to 5-3. But Jacksonville would respond with a three-run seventh and another run in the eighth to go up 8-3 after eight.

In the ninth, a Tim Beckham (above) two-run single brought the Biscuits back to within 8-6, but a diving catch by right fielder Jeremy Synan robbed Cole Figueroa of a base hit to end the game with Henry Wrigley on deck.

Shane Dyer (5-7) was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits over 5.2. Paul Phillips gave up three in the seventh, and Sergio Espinosa gave up another in the eighth.

The Biscuits managed just five hits on the night, with Beckham's 2-5 night the only multi-hit performance.

RHP Alex Colome will square off against RHP Bryan Evans on Wednesday at 6:05 CT.
