Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - A hot start for the Mississippi Braves provided enough runs to stave off a late Jackson Generals rally en route to a 10-7 victory on Monday night at Pringles Park.

The Mississippi Braves (17-20, 42-65) scored five runs in the first two innings, chasing Generals starter James Gillheeney after just three innings. Five more runs in the middle innings off of reliever Taylor Stanton put the game out of reach.

Meanwhile, RHP Zeke Spruill - fresh off a call-up from high-A Lynchburg - was solid over six innings, earning his first double-A victory. He allowed just three earned runs over six innings of work.

At the plate, all but one Brave got a hit on the night, including three hits each from Dan Nelson, Willie Cabrera, and Jordan Kreke. Nelson drove in three runs on the afternoon, while Cabrera, Cory Harrilchak, and Antoan Richardson each drove in two.

The Braves led 10-2 after the top of the sixth, but the Generals (15-22, 53-54) scored five times over the final four frames to make it close. Billy Bullock earned his ninth save of the season, pitching the final out of the ninth and stranding two runners.

Former M-Brave Jesus Sucre led the Generals at the plate, going 3-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, driving in three on the night.

With the series tied at a game apiece, the Braves and Generals square off for game three of a five game set on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM CDT. LHP Luis Avilan climbs the hill for the Braves against RHP Tom Wilhelmsen.
