MOBILE, Ala. - After allowing a run in the first, Wes Roemer and the BayBears' bullpen shut down the Chattanooga Lookouts to help lead the BayBears to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Roemer (8-6) surrendered a lead-off double to Alfredo Silverio in the top of the first but recorded the next two outs before Scott Van Slyke put the Lookouts (57-51, 22-16) on top with a run-scoring single.

Chris Withrow (3-6) traded zeroes with Roemer until the bottom of the fifth when the BayBears (66-42, 28-10) captured the lead. Withrow retired the first two batters before Adam Eaton reached with a single. A.J. Pollock bounced a ball to third as Travis Denker scooped and fired low, past first, allowing Eaton to come home with the tying tally.

Ryan Wheeler struck out on a breaking ball in the dirt but reached first on a wild pitch that coincided with strike three to keep the frame alive. That brought Daryle Ward to the dish as he poked a single through the right side of the infield to score Pollock, giving the BayBears a 2-1 edge.

Roemer rattled off a perfect sixth inning before exiting the ballgame. Bryan Woodall worked around a lead-off double in the seventh to hang a scoreless frame while Kyler Newby assisted Woodall through the eighth by inducing Griff Erickson to hit into a double play with two men on base. Mike DeMark (S, 8) finished off the night by tossing a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to extend the BayBears' lead in the South Division to eight games over Montgomery.

The BayBears take on the Lookouts in game four of their five-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05. Left-hander Patrick Corbin (8-6) starts for the BayBears against righty Allen Webster (3-1). It's a Wine Down Wednesday as the BayBears will debut Rush Wines for $1 between 6 and 8 p.m. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, please call (251) 479-BEAR or visit www.mobilebaybears.com .
