Saginaw Spirit News Release
Flint, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (19-39-1-0) wraps up their road swing and their 15-game season series with the Flint Firebirds (35-18-1-4) Saturday night at The Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Head-to-Head
Tonight is the 15th and final meeting between these two rivals. The Spirit are 5-9-0-0 against the Firebirds this season, and relinquished the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup to their rivals for the first time since the 2016-17 season. Four of the five wins against the Firebirds this season have come on their home ice. Over the last five seasons, the Spirit are 15-5-2-0 at The Dort Financial Center.
Last Time Out
Saginaw: The Spirit pulled off a miraculous five-goal comeback Friday night to beat the Sarnia Sting, 9-8. Saginaw trailed 8-4 with just over three minutes remaining. Mitchell Smith, Dean Loukus, Pavel Mintyukov, and Dalton Duhart all scored to tie the game with 39 seconds left. In overtime, it was Duhart completing the comeback and scoring his fourth goal of the game to give the Spirit a 9-8 victory, snapping a six-game skid. Duhart finished the game with a career-high six points, and scored his 100th career point earlier in the contest.
Flint: The Firebirds have had nearly a week between games, last suiting up on Sunday in Windsor. The Spits completed the home-and-home sweep, taking over first place in the division with a 7-4 decision. Overage forward Ethan Keppen led the way for the Firebirds with two goals, but the offensive fire power for the Spits was too much for Flint to handle. Despite allowing seven goals, Luke Cavallin made 37 saves. It's the first time this season the Firebirds have gone three straight games without a win (0-2-0-1).
