
Spirit Slide into First Place

Lynn, MA â The North Shore Spirit took over sole possession of first place in the North Division on Friday night by topping the Brockton Rox 6-1 at the New Fraser Field. Brian Morse (4-1) went 8 2/3, allowing only one run on nine hits. In front of a crowd of 2,533, Joe Hastings was 3-4, including his third homerun of the season.
North Shore got out of the gates quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning. After three straight walks to load the base with one out, Travis Oglesby got the Spirit on the board with an RBI single to right. Rob Fischer and Hastings followed with run-scoring singles of their own, giving the Spirit a 3-0 lead.
The Spirit would score a single run in the second and then tack on two more in the third. With one out, Hastings drilled a first-pitch fastball deep over the fence in right. Lucas Taylor continued the onslaught with a double to the gap in left and then scored on a base hit by Yuri Sanchez. Brian Buchanan (6-1) suffered his first loss of season for Brockton. North Shore has now won eight games in a row.
Ben Knapp (3-1) will pitch for the Spirit on Saturday night and will face Brockton's Scott Martin (4-1). Saturday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.
