Quebec's Chuck Crumpton sold to Montreal Expos
Published on July 2, 2004 under Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham N.C. -- Quebec starter Chuck Crumpton became the second Northeast League player to be purchased in three days when the Montreal Expos bought him on July 2. Earlier in the week, Brockton's Robert Averette was sold to the Baltimore Orioles. Crumpton joins Jeff Harris (Seattle) and Paul Abraham (San Diego) as the third Les Capitale to be sold this year.
Crumpton, who signed with Quebec on June 14, won all three of his starts and posted a 0.90 earned run average in 20 innings of work. He allowed two earned runs, both against New Jersey on June 20, and struck out 12 while walking none.
This will be Crumpton's second stint with the Expos, as he was originally selected by them in the 25th round of the 1999 draft. He spent a majority of his time in Double-A Harrisburg, but worked his way up to the Triple-A level in 2002 (Ottawa) and 2003 (Edmonton) and amassed a record of 2-3 in 38 games.
