Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks announced today that they have signed LHP Danny Miller to a Northeast League contract for the 2004 season. To make room for Miller on the roster, the Lumberjacks released RHP Eric Thomas.
Miller, who pitched for the Lumberjacks last season, was dealt to the Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs during the off-season for C/DH Ryan Sienko. Last season, Miller was 4-10 with a 4.74 ERA for the Jacks.
A resident of Millersville, MD, Miller went 9-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 102.2 innings pitched for the Jacks in 2002 to win the Northeast League Rookie of the Year award. He fanned 90 and walked 51 that season and finished third in shutouts and 4th in strikeouts per 9 innings in the league.
Injuries plagued Miller last season, including a game in which he was struck above the eye with a line drive.
The Jacks also signed rookie 3B/OF Tim Baywal. The 6-foot-1, 220 pound Baywal recently graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit. Baywal is from Washington, MI.
To make room for the new additions on the roster, Thomas was released after appearing in two games for the Lumberjacks, posting an 8.10 ERA in 3.1 innings pitched. Also released was INF Mike Grasso, who hit .211 with three RBI in 76 at-bats.
The Lumberjacks host Les Capitales de Quebec for three games on this holiday weekend. Saturday is the Lumberjacks 4th of July celebration, while Sunday is Jacks Pack Day, meaning fans can purchase a Jack Pack which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four programs, an pre-game on the field ball toss and a post game running of the bases for just $35. For tickets, call the Lumberjacks at (207) 947-1900, stop in the Jacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall, or visit the Lumberjacks website at www.bangorlumberjacks.com.
