
Spirit Silenced in 7-1 Loss to Knights

LONDON, ONT. - The Saginaw Spirit headed to London on Friday night to square off against the Knights for their third matchup of the season. The Knights looked to Aaron Berisha, Max Jones and Christian Dvorak for a two-goal performance and a late goal by Mitch Marner to secure a 7-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit at the Budweiser Gardens.
Things heated up quickly, as Saginaw's Keaton Middleton and London's Jacob Graves dropped the gloves and were handed five minutes for fighting and a game misconduct eleven seconds into the opening period. Despite the intensity, the Spirit and Knights were scoreless throughout the first 20 minutes. Without the defensive expertise of Middleton, the Spirit were successful in killing three penalties in the first period, largely in thanks to an outstanding performance by Evan Cormier. London carried the play for a good part of the first period, recording 12 shots on the Spirit net. Saginaw finished the frame with 7 shots.
The London Knights made the first mark in the game at 6:17 of the second period, after Aaron Berisha finished off a two-on-one play to beat Evan Cormier glove side. The Knights quickly picked up momentum, app lying pressure to the Spirit net as Berisha slipped in his second tally of the evening and gave the Knight's a 2-0 lead. Christian Dvorak added to the Knights' advantage and break open the game on a backhand goal 16 seconds later, putting London up 3-0. With 3:57 left to go in the middle frame, Max Jones netted a late insurance goal for the Knights, allowing them to finish the period with a 4-0 lead over the Spirit.
The Spirit found their scoring legs early in the third period, as Mike Davies picked up his own rebound to bea t Brendan Burke at 1:27. Tye Felhaber picked up the lone assist on Davies' ninth goal of the season. But Max Jones was quick to silence the Spirit scoring, as he tucked away his second goal of the night at 3:06 of the final stanza, giving the Knights a 5-1 advantage. Following in the steps of his teammates Aaron Berisha and Max Jones, Christian Dvorak netted his second tally of the night at 9:22 of the third period, pushing the Knights over the Spirit 6-1. London netted one more late insurance goal at 15:58 off the stick of Mitch Marner at 15:58 of the final period. Final shots on goal favored the London Knights by a total of 35-27.
