Niagara IceDogs News Release

The IceDogs defeated the Ottawa 67's by a score of 4-1 on Friday night, taking a 2-1 lead in the season series between the two teams.

In thrilling back-and-forth action out of the gate the IceDogs ended up getting on the scoreboard first after Brendan Perlini showed off his speed and broke away from the 67's defender to net his 15th of the season. Christopher Paquette also made his way on the scoresheet before the end of the frame as he scored while taking a tumble to give the IceDogs a 2-0 lead heading into the second period. The total shots for the first period were 14-6 for Niagara.

Niagara got off to a slow start in the second period as Ottawa began to take over, eventually cutting the lead in half to make it a 2-1 hockey game. Alex Nedeljkovic would not allow the 67's any more goals throughout the period though as he looked excellent throughout, making a number of stellar saves including a phenomenal glove stop on an Ottawa breakaway. The shots at the end of the frame were 23-20 for the IceDogs.

Heading in to the third period both teams were looking to make a big impact. Josh Ho-Sang believed he gave the IceDogs a two goal lead but after further review the referee waved it off due to a high stick. However, Niagara quickly built off their momentum as Josh Wesley scored his fifth of the season. After an Ottawa tripping penalty late in the period IceDogs defenceman Ryan Mantha fired the puck through a screen from the blueline to put the game out of reach as Niagara extended their winning streak to five games after a 4-1 victory.

Tickets are still available for the IceDogs next home game on Thursday, January 21st vs Owen Sound Attack. This game makes the annual Pink in the Rink game in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Proceeds will go towards women's cancer research, so be sure to wear pink on the 21st to show your support.
