Saginaw Spirit News Release
ST. CATHARINES, ONT. - The Saginaw Spirit started their three game weekend on the road Thursday night as they squared off against the Niagara IceDogs. Despite a game-tying goal by Dylan Sadowy moments into the third period, the IceDogs scored late to defeat the Saginaw Spirit by a score of 2-1.
The Saginaw Spirit started Thursday night's contest exhibiting some early offensive chances on the Niagara IceDogs, including an impressive opportunity for Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy. Despite the hot start, the IceDogs struck first. At 5:32 of the opening frame, Anthony DiFruscia finished off an odd man rush to give the IceDogs at 1-0 lead over the Saginaw Spirit. Pavel Jenys and Graham Knott were credited with the assists. Shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play favored Niagara, 14-7.
A scoreless second period left the Niagara IceDogs holding on to their one-goal lead over the Saginaw Spirit. Although Niagara sustained their 1-0 lead, the Saginaw Spirit carried play in the middle frame, outshooting the IceDogs 12-5.
In the third period, Dylan Sadowy scored 1:02 into the period to put the Spirit on the board and tie the game at one apiece. Keaton Middleton registered the lone assist on Sadowy's team leading 13th goal of the season. Throughout the third period the Spirit were presented with a multitude of scoring chances, including two five-on-three power play opportunities, but were denied of their scoring efforts by Niagara's Alex Nedeljkovic. The IceDogs regained their one-goal lead after Josh Wesley scored an even strength goal fresh out of the penalty box at 15:36 of the third period to cap off the night's scoring and gave the Niagara IceDogs a 2-1 win over the visiting Saginaw Spirit. The IceDogs outshot the Spirit by a total of 35-31.
