Sarnia, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit (17-30-1-0) dropped a wild 10-6 decision to the Sarnia Sting (20-22-3-1) on Wednesday night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON.

The Spirit got off to a great start just 1:05 into the game when Buffalo Sabres prospect Josh Bloom fired a shot over the shoulder of Ben Gaudreau to give Saginaw a 1-0 lead on their first shot of the game. At 4:56, Evan Klein stole a pass from the Sarnia defense and jammed the puck past Gaudreau to make it 2-0 Spirit on Klein's seventh goal of the season. With the Sting on the power play, Alexis Daviault's shot from the point deflected past Andrew Oke to make it 2-1. Nolan Dann and Theo Hill earned the assists. Late in the period, Northville, Michigan native Zach Filak scored his second goal of the season when he found himself all alone in front of the Saginaw net. Saginaw outshot the Sting 10-6 in the period, but the score remained tied 2-2 after one period.

The Spirit got back to the lead at 5:14 of the middle frame on the first of two goals in the period for Matyas Sapovaliv. He was assisted by Dean Loukus and Pavel Mintyukov. Just 1:15 later, the Sting tied it up courtesy of a two-on-one goal from Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Ty Voit. Theo Hill set up Voit on his 14th goal of the season. Halfway through the period, Sapovaliv put the Spirit back up 4-3 with his 14th of the season. 1:25 later, Easton Wainwright scored on the power play to tie the game again at 4-4. At 17:42, Sarnia jumped out front for the first time in the game on an unassisted goal by Zach Filak for his second goal of the game.

After back-and-forth play to start the third, it was Saginaw cashing in on a defensive zone turnover by the Sting. Nick Wong tied the game on his 15th goal of the season scored unassisted at 8:54. Sarnia jumped back out front when Nolan Dann and Ty Voit went in on a two-on-none break and beat Oke to make it 6-5 Sting. Loukus ended up in the box in the closing minutes of the game, and Saginaw would relent their third power play goal against. Zach Filak finished the hat trick with his third goal of the game from Theo Hill and Ryan Mast. Sarnia would fill an empty net twice courtesy of Nolan Dann and Max Namestnikov. Easton Wainwright added his second goal of the game with 55 seconds left to give the Sting their 10-6 decision.
