Attack Pulls away in Third to Down Rangers
March 2, 2022 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers headed down to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre for the third time this season to take on The Owen Sound Attack.
This would be an important win for The Blueshirts, as the two points could bump the team to 7th place in the Western Conference and four points separate Owen Sound and Kitchener.
The first period saw lots of chances for both teams, and netminder Pavel Cajan makes a few stellar saves to keep the score tied at zero at the end of the first 20 minutes of play.
The Attack score early on in the second period ( #29 Ethan Burroughs (20) scores. Assists: #9 Sam Sedley, #37 Nicholas Porco). Owen sound adds another shortly after to make it 2-0 (#18 Servac Petrovsky (18) scores. Assists: #28 Mark Woolley).
The Rangers respond though, as captain Francesco Pinelli scores on a breakaway (Assisted by #59 Mitchell Martin). The first penalty of the game comes when Mark Wooley gets a high-stick up on Mike Petizian, but the Rangers are unable to capitalize on it.
The pace really starts to heat up again - and it's the Rangers' turn to get a penalty. The Blueshirts are able to kill it off, and we end the second with a score of 2-1 Owen Sound.
The third begins with another goal from The Attack to restore their two-goal lead (#29 Ethan Burroughs (21)), and extend their lead shortly after with another goal from #21 Stepan Machacek (Assists: #13 Gavin Bryant, #16 Logan LeSage).
The Attack keep the pressure on and make it 5-1 with 10 minutes left in the 3rd period (#16 Logan LeSage (6) scores. Assists: #13 Gavin Bryant). Pavel Cajan comes out of the net to play the puck but can't make it back as #39 Colby Barlow (20) scores to make it 6-1.
Petizian goes to the box, but#14 Cameron Mercer (4) scores shorthanded to make it 6-2 (Assists: #11 Jacob LeBlanc).
The Rangers will look to regroup on Friday at The Aud.
