Saginaw, Mich. - Spirit General Manager Dave Drinkill announced today (Jan. 10) that the Saginaw Spirit have acquired defenseman James Guo and a 2023 sixth round pick from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for defenseman Cam Gauvreau, Windsor's third round pick in 2025, and Saginaw's fourth round pick in 2023.

"We want to first thank Cam for the time he spent in Saginaw," said Drinkill. "We wish him the best of luck with the Petes."

Cam Gauvreau arrived in Saginaw on November 16, 2022 as part of a package deal with the North Bay Battalion. He skated in 14 games with the Spirit, recorded an assist, and racked up 35 penalty minutes. Gauvreau was originally selected by North Bay with the 191st selection of the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

"We are very happy to be adding James to our core of exciting young players here in Saginaw," continued Drinkill. "He is a very mobile defenseman, and we believe his skill set will translate well on the ice with us."

A native of Woodbridge, Ont., James Guo was selected 74th overall by the Petes in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. This season in Peterborough, he has appeared in 29 games and managed eight points (1G, 7A). The right-handed blueliner notched four assists in his final five games as a Pete. In his OHL career, Guo has two goals, ten assists, and 12 points in 81 games played.

Guo is expected to join the Spirit prior to their upcoming trip to Windsor. Puck drop on January 12th from WFCU Centre is set for 7:05pm.
