Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners jumped out to an early lead but as has been the case all too often this season, the bullpen could not hold on and the bats went quiet, picking up just one hit over the game's final six innings, as Lowell fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones, 9-3, Sunday evening at LeLacheur Park.

Brooklyn (21-22) got on the board right out of the gate, as New York Mets first round draft pick Michael Conforto laced a two-out double down the leftfield line to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.

Lowell (19-24) took the lead in the second inning with Mike Meyers creating some offense. After a one-out single, Meyers stole second base, coming into score on a Jordan Procyshen RBI single, before Mauricio Dubon came around to score when Raymel Flores bunt single was throw away, giving the Spinners a 2-1 lead.

The Spinners added a run in the third after Danny Mars led off the inning with a single. After moving to second on a passed ball, Sam Travis singled through the hole to score Mars and extend the Lowell lead to 3-1.

Brooklyn chipped away at the Lowell lead in the fourth inning chasing Reed Reilly from the game after he had got a pair of quick outs, pushing across a run before Mario Alcantara struck out Tucker Tharp to leave the bases loaded and preserve a one-run Spinners lead.

The lead was short-lived however, as the Cyclones would get to Alcantara for a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Michael Bernal, who tortured Spinners' pitching all day long, delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded to give the Cyclones a lead they would not relinquish.

While the Spinners were limited to just one hit after the third inning, the Cyclones added a run in the sixth and four in the eighth for what would hold as a 9-3 final.

Reilly went 3.2 innings, tiring in the fourth, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out four. Alcantara picked up an important strikeout to close out the fourth, but allowed the eventual winning run, charged with two runs on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings. Chandler Shepherd allowed one run on four hits, striking out three over two innings before the duo of Brandon Show (third of an inning, three runs) and Enfember Martinez (1.2 innings, one run) closed out the game.

No Spinner had more than one hit in the loss, as Jordan Betts had his hitting streak snapped at nine games with an 0-for-3 night.

The Spinners and Cyclones meet again Monday night on Law Enforcement Appreciation Night at LeLacheur Park. Jake Drehoff (0-3, 5.71) looks to get into the win column when he gets the ball for a 7:05 first pitch.
