
Spinners Sweep ValleyCats in Midweek Doubleheader

LOWELL, MA - After getting rained the day before, the Lowell Spinners (9-2) were faced with a tall task: defeating the Tri-City ValleyCats (4-7) in a midweek doubleheader. The Spinners, however, prevailed outscoring the ValleyCats 9-1 in the twin bill on Wednesday Night.
Spinners Walk-Off In Game One
With the game tied in the bottom the eighth inning, with Luke Bandy on second base, Marino Campana laced a slider into left field for a double, scoring Bandy and giving the Spinners a tight 2-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader.
The Spinners got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Alex Erro, that scored Jonathan Diaz from third base, putting the Spinners in front 1-0.
Bryan Lucas got the start for the Spinners in game one, and pitched well again. This time Lucas got a no-decision, however. He went 4.1 innings, allowing four hits and no runs. He also struck out seven and walked four.
In the top of the seventh, however, Tri-City's Preston Pavlica tied it at one run apiece with a home run over the left-center field fence.
Spinners Ride five-run sixth to 7-0 trouncing of Valley Cats in game two
In the bottom of the fourth inning, with Jaxx Groshans at third and Nick Northcut on second, Ricardo Cubillan blooped one over Grae Kessinger's head at second base, giving the Spinners a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, for the second consecutive inning, the Spinners struck again. This time, Groshans was the one that lead the charge when he drove in Kervin Suarez from third base.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lowell broke the game open, scoring five runs on just three hits. The first run came when Juan Carlos Abreu reached on an error by Nathan Perry, giving the Spinners a 3-0 lead.
After Jecorrah Arnold was hit by a pitch, loading the bases up, Suarez lined the ball to deep right field and it kicked off the wall. Arnold, coming around third, tripped halfway down the line, but scored an errant throw by Wilyer Abreu. The errant throw also scored Suarez who stood at third after a bases clearing triple.
The Spinners are back in action Thursday night, when they look to sweep the ValleyCats and win their seventh in a row.
