Tight Game in Vermont Goes against the Tigers

Norwich, CT - Eliezer Alfonzo went 2-for-4 with an RBI but the Connecticut Tigers (4-9) fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters (7-6) by a final score of 4-3. For Alfonzo, this was the fourth-straight game with a hit and an RBI.

Connecticut got their second straight scoreless outing from a starter. Xavier Javier went 4.2 innings giving up two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

The Tigers took the lead in the in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jake Holton to score Bryant Packard.

The Tigers added to their lead in the fifth inning with a throwing error by Vermont on a fly ball to right field to score Corey Joyce. Packard finished the game 1-for-1 with three walks, and Joyce added a hit of his own for Connecticut.

Vermont put up their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Lawrence Butler RBI single off of Kory Behenna. Behenna went 2.1 innings giving up four runs, two earned, on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

The Lake Monsters tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run home run by Yerdel Vargas to make it 3-3. In the same frame, Vermont capitalized on a Tigers' error, followed by a Kyle McCann single. Danny Bautista drove in the run from third with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.

Jorge Martinez (Win, 2-1) and Jeferson Mejia (Save, 1) combined to surrender one hit in the final two innings to hang on for the 4-3 victory.

The Connecticut Tigers are back in action tomorrow in the first game of a home stand against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
