Spikes, Thunder Halted by Rain After Four Innings Sunday
May 30, 2021 - Major League Baseball Draft League (MLBDL)
State College Spikes News Release
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After fighting through persistent rain on a historically cold May 30 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, the elements became too much and stopped Sunday's matchup between the State College Spikes and Trenton Thunder during the top of the fifth inning with the game tied, 0-0.
The high temperature of 49 degrees for the day was the lowest high temperature ever recorded in Centre County for May 30, and both teams' bats were chilled by the hurlers. State College (0-4) starter Chris Wall went three innings and allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six batters, while Trenton's (3-1) Justin Garcia gave up no Spikes hits through four frames. Garcia yielded just a walk and a hit batsman while notching three strikeouts.
Andrew Moore pitched the last inning-plus for the Spikes and compiled one strikeout and one walk.
Fans holding tickets for Sunday's game can exchange them for tickets of equal or lesser value to any other 2021 Spikes home game, based on availability.

Monday, the Spikes will welcome the Frederick Keys to Happy Valley for a 4:05 p.m. Memorial Day matchup. State College is slated to send right-hander Payton Rice (0-0) to the hill after the Cumberland (Tenn.) product tossed four scoreless innings on Tuesday in Williamsport. Frederick's starting pitcher has not yet been announced.
The rescheduled Bark in the Park presented by the Centre Daily Times will now allow fans to bring their dogs to the game on the Memorial Day holiday as well. Doggie doors and gates will open at 3 p.m., and the game will also feature an increase to 100% capacity for humans and canines at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the Memorial Day Summer Kickoff.
The homestand concludes on Tuesday as the Spikes will start June with a $2 Tuesday presented by WOWY, featuring $2 Walking Tacos, hot dogs, popcorn and Outfield Bleacher seats.
