-SPIKES TAKE ON DOUBLEDAYS: The State College Spikes conclude a two-game series tonight with the Auburn Doubledays at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Spikes have now won eight of their last ten, including three wins over Auburn. The Spikes are now 7-2 against the Doubledays this year, while Auburn leads the all-time series, 20-19.
-LAST NIGHT: Brock Holt went 3-for-4 and provided the only scoring with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh as three State College pitchers combined to shut out Auburn for a 1-0 Spikes win last night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Holt smashed his fifth home run of the year off of Auburn reliever Brian Justice. Tyler Cox, Nelson Pereira and Marc Baca combined for the five-hit shutout, with Pereira stretching his scoreless streak to 12 innings and getting the win.
-SPIKES TO START BLACK TONIGHT: Right-hander Victor Black goes to the mound for State College tonight. The Pirates' 2009 supplemental first-round draft pick of the Pirates is making his third start and seventh overall appearance on the year. Black will face college teammate Ryan Goins of Auburn for the second time this week, after yielding two hits to Goins in Monday night's game at Falcon Park.
-DOUBLEDAYS PUT GRACEY BACK ON THE HILL: Right-hander Scott Gracey starts tonight for Auburn after being bumped by Evan Crawford last night. Gracey has faced the Spikes three times already on the season, going 1-1 with one no-decision. The 15th-round draft pick of the Blue Jays in 2008, Gracey went five innings and allowed four runs (three earned) against the Spikes on Monday night in Auburn.
-SOCCER SATURDAY AT THE BALLPARK: The Spikes continue a seven-game homestand tonight by taking the field in special soccer-themed McDonald's jerseys, which will be up for bids throughout the game in a Jersey-off-the-Back Auction to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The first 1,000 fans ages 14 and under will also receive Spikes Mini-Soccer Balls presented by McDonald's.
