BATAVIA, NY-- The State College Spikes defeated the Batavia Muckdogs, 5-2, in game one of a doubleheader at Dwyer Stadium on Monday night.
Aaron Baker went 3-for-3 for State College (32-30), falling just a homer shy of the cycle. Baker was intentionally walked in his final plate appearance. Evan Chambers also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. Chambers has failed to reach base just once in nine plate appearances in this series against Batavia (31-31).
The Spikes' Tyler Cox (8-2) went six innings for the victory to jump into a tie for the top wins mark in the New York-Penn League with Brooklyn's Mark Cohoon. Justin Smith (0-1) took the loss for the Muckdogs.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Spikes will send right-hander Victor Black (1-0) to the mound to face Batavia right-hander Jesse Simpson (0-1).
