Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Williamsport snapped their six-game losing streak on Monday evening in comeback fashion scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning to defeat the Jamestown Jammers 2-1.
In the top of the 4th inning the Jammers took the early 1-0 lead as C Carlos Paulino worked a walk against Cutters starter Korey Noles (2-2, 1.93) and wound up scoring on DH Dustin Dickerson's RBI double.
Noles would not be the pitcher of record on the evening, but in his six innings of work he allowed just one run, while scattering three hits and striking out six Jammers.
Jammers starting pitcher Erick Carillo (4-2, 2.26) had a no-hitter through 6.2 innings until C Sebastian Valle laced a single to right field. 1B Darin Ruf then hit a tying RBI double to right scoring Valle all the way from first base. Carillo gave up the one run and two hits in seven innings pitched while striking out ten Crosscutters.
The Cutters would plate the game winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning as DH Francisco Murillo led off the frame with a bloop single to center. LF Stephen Batts sacrificed Murillo to second with a perfectly executed two strike bunt down the first base line. CF Carl Uhl followed with a sharp single moving Murillo to third. With only one out the Jammers intentionally walked SS Jonathan Villar to load the bases in hope that 2B Adam Buschini would ground into an inning ending double play. The strategy did not work however, as Buschini lifted a fly ball to right allowing Murillo to score the game winning run standing up.
Cutters RHP Ebelin Lugo (3-1, 3.71) picked up his third win of the season in relief of Korey Noles. Lugo allowed one hit and struck out two in his two innings of work. Closer Justin Long (1-2, 4.34) worked a perfect 9th for his team leading 8th save of the season.
The Crosscutters head on the road for six games beginning Tuesday evening in Auburn. The Cutters return home on Monday, August 31st for the start of seven straight home games to conclude the 2009 regular season.
