Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Muskegon Lumberjacks hit the road and drove west towards Cedar Rapids, Iowa for a two-game series starting on Friday night at the Imon Ice Arena. 3 powerplay goals lifted the Riders to a 4-1 win over Muskegon in the first of the two-game set.
With the loss Muskegon falls to 20-23-2-0 this season while the RoughRiders improve to 21-17-4-3 and continue their strong play at home this season.
Just 5:18 into the contest Cedar Rapids took a 1-0 lead while on the powerplay. Eric Pohlkamp slid the puck towards the net looking for a redirection and found Jacob Kraft at the near side of the crease. Falling to the ice Kraft took a shot that was turned aside by Raythan Robbins but was able to tuck the rebound between the pad and post to give his team the lead.
The Jacks answered back before the end of the period to carry a 1-1 tie into the first intermission. Ethan Fredericks carried the puck into the offensive zone while on a 2-on-1 with Ty Henricks. Fredericks fired a shot that was blocked but re-found possession on the far side wall. The future Northeastern Huskey worked his way off the wall, across the slot, and to the top of the near side circle before firing a shot below the glove of Bruno Bruveris.
Again, on the powerplay, this time with 2:54 to play in the second period Cedar Rapids found the back of the net to make it 2-1 heading to the third. Ryan Walsh leaned in for a faceoff on the far side of the Jacks zone and won the puck back for Tyson Gross. Gross played the puck across the blue line to Pohlkamp who sent it into the slot for Dylan Hryckowian. The Montreal native held the puck for a moment before firing a shot past Robbins and into the net.
Two more goals in the third period iced the game for the RoughRiders. The first came at the 13:25 mark on another powerplay. Walsh carried the puck around the back of the net and wrapped it around to the near side post. Robbins met the puck at the post with his pad and got a piece of it, but a tough bounce saw the puck cross the Jacks goal line. Jack Musa added an empty net goal at the 16:19 mark to make it 4-1 for Cedar rapids.
Despite making 30 saves on 34 shots Robbins (4-11) earns the loss. Bruveris (18-10-3-1) earns the win stopping 18 of 19 shots fired his way.
The teams will go back at it tomorrow at 8:05 pm EST at the Imon Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, IA for the back end of the weekend series. You can catch the action on FloSports and the Mixlr app.
