Space Cowboys Beat Isotopes, 12-8

Albuquerque, NM - Sugar Land took tallied four homers and 14 hits to take game one, 12-8, against the Isotopes Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.

Offensively, the Isotopes recorded 10 hits, one double, one triple and two homers. Wynton Bernard led the way with a game-high four hits, including a triple and homer to go along with two RBI and two runs. Alan Trejo tallied two hits while Sean Bouchard drove in two. Elehuris Montero had one hit, run and RBI.

The Space Cowboys took a 5-0 lead in the first inning behind a grand slam by Pedro Leon. Albuquerque got one back in the home half on Bernard's leadoff home run.

In the second inning, the Isotopes got another run, 5-2, closer on Trejo's sixth homer of the year.

But Sugar Land took control again in the fourth with a four spot, including two homers, taking a 9-2 lead. In the home half of the frame, the Isotopes plated a run on Montes' RBI single.

The Space Cowboys offense added three more runs in the sixth, including a two-run blast from Marty Costes. They led, 12-3.

Albuquerque clawed back with five runs in the seventh. Bernard swatted an RBI triple, Montero hit an RBI single, a two-run double by Bouchard and a fielding error plated the five-spot.

Ashton Goudeau took the loss, his fifth of the year, after allowing five runs over 0.1 inning of work.

Topes Scope: - The Isotopes allowed their sixth grand slam of the year in the first inning to Pedro Leon. It was the first since Taylor Jones, also of Sugar Land, on July 1.

-Goudeau lasted just 0.1 inning, tying the shortest outing for an Isotopes starter this year (two times, both Frank Duncan).

-Albuquerque has now surrendered five runs in the first inning five times now.

-The Isotopes have relented double-digit runs in six of the 10 losses to the Space Cowboys this season.

-Albuquerque has allowed 152 runs and 48 homers over 19 games against the Space Cowboys.

-The Isotopes have allowed at least four homers to Sugar Land in five games this year.

-Six of the 16 games played in July have been 3:00 hours or more.

-Albuquerque walked 10 Space Cowboys tonight-tying for the second-most walks allowed this season (April 6 at Oklahoma City).

-Bernard tallied his fifth game-opening homer of the season-tying Tony Abreu's franchise record set in 2009.

-Bernard recorded his seventh triple of the year in the seventh frame-tied for the most in the PCL. Additionally, he tallied his second four-hit game of the year and his team-leading 28th multi-hit effort, his third in his last four. Bernard also drove in two runs for his team-leading 21st multi-RBI game.

-Montero extended his on-base streak to 25 games-the second-longest active streak in PCL. During the streak he is slashing with .366/.437/.634 with 11 walks, five doubles, six homers and 27 RBI.

-Trejo extended his hit streak to seven games with his second inning homer. During the streak, he is hitting .430 (13x30) with four doubles, one homer and four RBI. It was also his first homer since June 28 vs. Sugar Land, 63 at-bats.

-Goudeau has allowed at least five runs in seven of his eight starts with the Isotopes.

-Jordan Sheffield allowed four runs for the second time this year (July 9 at Round Rock).

On Deck: The Isotopes and Space Cowboys will play game two Wednesday at 6:35 pm MT. Corey Oswalt is set to start for Albuquerque while Peter Solomon will toe the rubber for Sugar Land.
