July 22, 2022 - Pacific Coast League (PCL)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) - Pedro León made it a grand return to begin the second half for the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Friday night.
After four off days, León launched a first-inning grand slam to jumpstart a 12-8 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes.
León hit his home run 458 feet over the left-field wall at the Isotopes Park. It was the fourth grand slam of the season for the Space Cowboys and the third of León's Minor League Baseball career. León's grand slam was one of three Space Cowboys home runs that traveled at least 455 feet Friday - and one of four total home runs.
David Hensley hit his ninth home run of the season 465 feet to left in the fourth and Yainer Diaz - coming off his 2-for-4 appearance in the All-Star Futures Game - hit a 463-foot two-run homer two batters later. Diaz's home run was his sixth home run since joining the Space Cowboys and 15th overall of the year.
Marty Costes joined the onslaught of homers in the sixth with a solo shot, which was his first of the year.
Jonathan Bermudez made his first appearance since June 22 and worked 2 2/3 innings, striking out three without allowing a walk.
The Space Cowboys plated five runs in the first, with Taylor Jones adding an RBI single to go with León's grand slam.
Enmanuel Valdez continued his prolific July, collecting an RBI single in front of Diaz's fourth-inning homer. Valdez, who finished the night 3-for-6, has hit .391 (18x46) with nine doubles, a home run and 10 RBI over his last 11 games.
The Space Cowboys have scored at least 10 runs in six of their first 13 games at Isotopes Park this year.
Hunter Brown - who also represented the Houston Astros in the All-Star Futures Game last Saturday - tossed 3 2/3 innings in relief, striking out four batters.
Wynton Bernard and Alan Trejo each homered for Albuquerque. Sean Bouchard went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Enoli Paredes and Ronel Blanco each struck out three batters through an inning of relief to finish out the win.
The Space Cowboys and Isotopes continue their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Peter Solomon is scheduled to get the start for the Space Cowboys, with the Isotopes turning to righty Corey Oswalt.
