Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees opened the second half with a 6-0 loss to the Tacoma Rainiers Friday night. Both teams managed just five hits, but the Bees were not able to convert any baserunners into runs. It was only the third time all season that the Bees have been shut out and the first time that it happened on a non-doubleheader day. Salt Lake falls to 42-49 with the loss and Tacoma improves to 39-51.

Chad Wallach went 2-for-3 in the game while Magneuris Sierra, Jake Palomaki, and Jose Rojas had the only other hits for the Bees. It was the first time in 66 games that the Bees did not pick up an extra base hit, ending the second-longest streak in the PCL. Mike Mayers struck out a season-high seven batters as he went five innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

Tacoma got on the board in the fourth inning on a single by Brian O'Keefe and a wild pitch from Mayers. They scored four more runs in the ninth inning on two two-RBI doubles.

The Bees never had a baserunner make it past first base, despite five hits in the game.

Salt Lake and Tacoma will play game two of the series tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m.
