Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox continued their winning ways in the first game of the second half of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes Tuesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium.

The game was tied until the home half of the eighth inning when Taylor Ard hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Mike Zunino. Zunino led off the inning with a walk, and advanced all the way to third on a misfired pickoff attempt by the Volcanoes. The RBI was Ard's 29th of the year, maintaining his team-lead in the category.

Sox starter Ambioris Hidalgo had his best outing of the season, tossing six scoreless innings. The right-hander gave up seven hits and two walks to go along with five strikeouts.

The Frogs scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out RBI-single up the middle by third baseman Patrick Kivlehan.

Back-to-back doubles in the sixth by Ketel Marte and Mike Zunino brought in the second run of the game to put the Sox up 2-0. Marte's double was a high flare that dropped just fair of the left-field line, and Zunino's was a knock to the right-center wall.

Oliver Garcia relieved Hidalgo in the seventh, and the Volcanoes scored two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Garcia gave up two hits and a walk to allow the two runs, but recorded all three outs in the inning with a strikeout.

Mark Bordonaro (2-1, 5.11 ERA) pitched a scoreless frame after Garcia and was awarded his second win of the year. Salem-Keizer reliever Keith Bilodeau (0-1, 2.75 ERA) earned the loss.

Right-hander Blake Hauser tossed a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to preserve the one-run lead and earn his first save.

The AquaSox (1-0, 29-10) face the Volcanoes (0-1, 13-26) again Wednesday for the second game of the three-game series. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (5-0, 3.32 ERA) will be on the bump for the Frogs, matched by right-hander Chris Stratton (0-1, 6.23 ERA) of the Volcanoes.
